As far as I can tell the red stripes you see on various Japanese cars are supposedly to emulate the car wears 'Kari' license plates, which are like temporary plates they use so they can drive their non-road legal cars to shows and stuff.

Will say one thing there are some very nice cars, One thing they would have trouble driving on the roads here in the valley. There is a little village called Vacy that has upside down pot holes yes! They put tar in the holes to fit them but they are about 10 to 12 higher then the road surface.
I almost bought a red wagon like the white one but it had to much rust in it.
