Spammers

Post by bodgybro »

I've noticed the past few days we have been absolutely smashed with new sign ups and spammers.
I have been clearing them out and changed the sign up process but they still get through.
I've updated the forum and still they get through.
I have now changed all new sign ups to be set in the newly registered member group, all posts from that group need to be approved, once 5 are approved, they automatically become a registered member.
hoping this will stop them now...

another 1 registered but couldn't post, so I have now changed the captcha on registration
I did read up that the spammers are paying 5-10c a day... yes, a DAY to overseas grubs to manually bypass and register these spam accounts.
Why? all they have posted is gibberish garbage, not like any of what they posted is worthy of any of us trying to buy something from them and getting scammed for cash.
all it's done is made me crack down on new registrations... and even then, it's not a paid service so it's not like they are forcing me to pay for something to stop the spam.
pointless

The ones who call my work all the time say they are from some vehicle accident blah blah... i let them continue for a second and say my car has been reported as being involved in an accident, i then tell them I either don't own a car, i'm in a wheelchair or I ride a bike. they hang up pretty quick when the scam is up.
