Tamiya panel line

Post by sandboarder »

I thought I’d share what I’ve learned and how I’d been panel lining my Gundam’s. First thing is select what you’ll panel line. Here I bought this piece from the kit bash stuff on Little Robots shop. It’s for test reasons only and cheap.

Tamiya panel line product which is an enamel based paint.

Throughly share, clean the brush and repeat 2 or 3 more times. You want this to be very thin and clean.

Dab on and it should start to run along panel lines n grooves. The capillary action will do this and as the liquid drys it also pulls the colour pigments into the groove/lines. Don’t worry if it looks a mess.

Dab a cotton tip of your choice into enamel thinner, I’ve only used Tamiya. Give the work one quick wipe and the second pass will begin to clean it up so be careful not to remove to much.

It was hard to get clear close ups but you can get the idea. I panel line all parts while in the trees/spures and allow 24 hours to dry. I clean them up as I build and assemble as I go.

Heres 3 kits panel lined and drying. 2 are the Z’Goks I build last month.

Good tutorial thumbsup
I found washing the parts helps to prevent some of the liner pulling away when doing the clean up, and preps for the top coat.

Thanks guys.

I never wash plastic parts but I’m going to have to give it a try. Seen lots of people re-scribe lines and sand everything first. I’ve just really been keeping it simple so far. I’ll drive deeper into it soon enough tho
